Seit vielen Jahren bewahrte ich zwei Snowboards der Marke Burton auf dem Dachboden im Haus meiner Eltern auf.
Ich hatte Sie damals ca. 1999 auf dem Sperrmüll gefunden und mir war bewusst, dass jedes meiner neueren Boards technisch wesentlich besser ist, als diese Oldschool Bretter. Doch sie waren für mich auch eine Erinnerung an die Anfänge des Snowboarding. Zeiten, in denen ein Snowboard noch als eigenartiges Sportgerät von Skifahren misstrauisch begutachtet wurde. Zeiten, in denen Snowboarder vom Liftpersonal eher geduldet wurden als wilkommen zu sein.
Unser Sport und das Sportmaterial ist bestimmt von technischen Maßstäben – so auch das Snowboarding. Aktuelle Snowboards sind High-Tech Produkte. Aus diesem Grund ist es ersichtlich, dass die allermeisten Snowboards der Jahre 1985-1995 heute keine Fahrbegeisterung mehr auslösen können, ausser man betrachtet sie als Oldtimer. Doch warum bringen wir diese Boards nicht näher und viel sinnvoller zurück in unseren Alltag?
Die technische Eignung zur Verwendung eines Snowboards als Citycruiser oder Mini Cruiser ist geradezu ideal. Ein hochwertiger Holzkern, die Kunststofflaminierung auf Ober- und Unterseite, sowie partielle Aluminiumverstärkungen sorgen für den idealen Flex. In vielen Fällen lassen sich aus den großen Boards ein Citycruiser und ein Mini Cruiser schneiden. Das ist ideal, wird doch so das großartige Design der Boards möglichst flächig genutzt. Dieses zu erhalten, indem ein transparentes Grip aus Glasgranulat die Oberseite bedeckt, ist ein ganz wesentliches Merkmal dieser Produktidee.
Ich wünsche allen alten oder ehemaligen Snowboardern viel Spaß beim stöbern in meinen Boards – denn jedes ist ein Unikat! Aber vor allem hoffe ich, dass der ein oder andere vielleicht sein eigenes Modell, welches er früher gefahren hat, hier wiederentdeckt.

During many years I kept two BURTON snowboards hidden in the attic of my parents’ house. I found them in 1999 thrown in some street trash and I was aware that any of my newer boards were technically much better than these old school boards.
On the other hand they were also a dear reminder of my early days of snowboarding. Those were times when a snowboard was still considered by skiers a quite exotic piece of sports equipment. And snowboarders were simply tolerated instead of being welcome by lift staff…
Our sports and sports materials are strongly determined by technical standards — that’s also the case with snowboarding. Today’s snowboards are high-tech products. For this reason, today the vast majority of snowboards produced in the decade of 1985-1995 can obviously no more trigger a driving excitement – except when they are appreciated as oldtimers. But why not bringing back this boards closer and more meaningful in our everyday lives?
The technical suitability for the use of a snowboard as City Cruiser or Mini Cruiser is absolutely ideal. A high quality wood-core, top and bottom surfaces protected by a hard plastic laminate, as well as partial aluminum reinforcements, provide an ideal flexibility.
In many cases, City Cruisers and Mini Cruisers can be cut from large boards. This way, the exclusive board designs can be kept intact as much as possible. An essential feature of this product idea is the application of a transparent grip layer of glass granulate to the top surface.
I wish that snowboard fans may enjoy browsing in my boards – because each of them is a unique specimen! (And it would be great if somebody would rediscover his own model here, used in the past…)
